Mental exercise > physical exercise

Dogs need both, but mental work is dramatically more tiring per minute. A dog that runs for an hour comes home wired; a dog that solves puzzles for 15 minutes comes home calm. For indoor days, lean heavily on mental work.

Food puzzles for the whole meal
